Welcome to the Spanish guitar building course, where you will have the unique opportunity to create your own guitar from scratch using the techniques of the prestigious Madrid school of guitar making. You will have the option to choose between building a flamenco or classical guitar, and it will be your personal decision as to the choice of woods with which you will build your instrument.

During the course, you will learn the entire process of building a guitar, from the selection of the woods to the proper use of tools, sharpening, acoustics of the instrument, bending the sides, making inlays and carving the details. There will be no time limit to complete your project, as we have a flexible schedule tailored to your needs.

In this course, you will work in a friendly atmosphere, where you will have the opportunity to meet other students and exchange experiences and knowledge. The teachers will be available to guide you individually through each step of the construction process, ensuring the quality and accuracy of your work.

Our main objective is your learning experience, so we will give you the time you need to develop your skills and consolidate your knowledge. In addition, we encourage creativity and personal expression in each instrument built, as we believe that each guitar is unique and reflects the passion and dedication of its creator.

Process

  • Initiation
    Basic tool. The structure of the instrument. Basic characteristics: acoustics, morphology, aesthetics. Classical and flamenco guitars. Delivery of the wood and material per student. Beginning of the construction of the instrument Preparation of the soleras (assembly platform) of top and back. Neck making. Head, overhead and top block.
  • Process of construction of the body.
    Gluing of the top and bottom panels according to the traditional system. Silhouetting and preparation of the soundboard bracing, bass-soundhole and bass-bridge. Silhouetting of the back and preparation of the crossbars and back joint. Bending of the sides and gluing of cleat. Joining of neck and soundboard. Fitting of the sides to the top. Preparation and placement of the rim set and sides reinforcements. Assembly of the back and closing of the box. Perimetral silhouetting and keeways, slots for the placement of the cenefas
  • Bridge, neck, fingerboard. Construction and adjustment.
    Preparation and gluing of the fingerboard. Neck finishing. Drawing and cutting of fret slots on the fingerboard. Placement of the frets. Placement of the bridge.
  • Finishing
    Final sanding. Placement of pegbox and capos. Assembly of strings and tuning. Delivery of the guitar, ready for varnishing.

Frequently asked questions

  • Is experience necessary?
    No, it is not necessary, although it is, of course, welcome. For many students this is their first experience with hand tools and they are taught until they are proficient with them.
  • Are the materials included in the course?
    Yes, all the woods necessary for the construction of the guitar are included, top quality woods with certificate of origin of sustainable logging from the most professional suppliers.
  • Is there flexibility in the class schedule?
    Yes, within the long opening hours of the school, you come whenever you can and want. Thus, you set your own working hours.
