This course covers the entire process of making a quality Spanish guitar, following the processes and criteria of the luthier craftsmen of  Madrid. Students receive all the necessary tools,first quality wood and templates for building their own guitar from scratch, as well as personal tuition and assistance by a highly experience master. Concentrated in an estimated eight weeks, this type of training allows to learn the entire process in the quickest and also most advantageous way. At the end of the course, each student gets his own guitar, built for himself with the close supervision of the master luthier, for a live enjoyment. A course will be taught open on demand at  the Glissando website and blog.

Course Approach:

The Complete Course for guitar construction is aimed at providing the necessary skills to build a quality Spanish guitar, with a concentrated class schedule that saves time and costs, and therefore with a tighter price. This course is the most advantageous (at least 8 weeks) for a thorough construction process.

Course functioning:

Classes are taught in groups of five; each student in class has a workbench and a full set of tools. Training is handson, learning by actually building a guitar, with some explanatory sessions guiding the process, the instrument, the use of materials and so on. Each class lasts 4 hours and after completing the course, each student will have completed his/her own guitar, which you can take home for your enjoyment.

Basic hand tool. Description and use.

Guitar features: acoustics, morphology, aesthetics..

Classic and flamenco guitars: differences.

–“Soleras” construction for the soundboard, both top and back templetes.

Necks & heels.

Preliminar neck construction. The scale to build it.

Choosing the wooden plates for the head. Drawing the head profile.

Drills and slots on the headstock to set the tuners.

Tie and glue of both wood parts that form the top and bottom.

Outline shape of the back and top of guitar.

Tracing and placing the sound hole.

Template and glueing the accoustic bars.

Ensambling the neck at the top.

Preparing and placing the cross bars.

Making the guitar body

Soundhole inserts.

Conforming and assembling body sides.

Placing the kerfings. Gluing the kerfings at the perimeter of the soundboard.

Inserts for placing the back cross bars.

Back assamblage.

Inserts for the edgings.

Assembling the fingerboard.

Fitting and finishing the neck.

Tracing and placing the bridge.

Layout and sawing the frets.

Inserting the frets wire.

Placement of the bridge.

Final sanding before varnish.

Varnish: French Polish, in an outsource option. Not included in the course.

Final placing of the tuners machine / pegs and Fingerboard bone and bridge bone pieces.

Placing strings and tune..

Definitive acquisition of the guitar.
